Reiki Initiation
Headwords: frequency | lack of energy | Usui | attunement

The fine attuning during the initiation process distinguishes the Usui system from other current energy systems. In the course of the initiation ceremony the Reiki Master will transmit energy to the receptive student according to an ancient Tibetan method.
About the Reiki Initiation
In General
The Reiki master is able to open a channel above the student’s head to allow for the influx of cosmic energy, which the student will be able to use for Reiki treatments.
The Reiki initiation raises the body’s frequency, and sets in motion a 21-day cleansing process, which, in turn, allows the student’s energy to work quicker. The student’s personal energies will be increased, blocks will be removed so that toxins can be released, and the student will be able to get rid of negative patterns and damaging habits.
This initial attunement is technically precise and can only be performed by a Reiki Master-Teacher, trained in Dr. Usui’s method.
Reiki Schools
There are 2 main Reiki Schools:
- The Reiki Alliance, headed by Phyllis Lei Furomoto, Tataka’s granddaughter.
- The American International Reiki Association (AIRA) headed by Dr. Barbara Weber Ray.
Both these leaders were trained as Reiki Masters by Mrs. Hawayo Takata. She transmitted her authority to them so they could lead these organizations ‘on a live-line.’
Reiki masters trained at either school are qualified to attune and teach others. Master training: training takes two years, and requires the master-in-training to learn the practice of healing and to follow the steps leading towards self-realization.
There are of course other Reiki schools and other energy systems that work with Reiki symbols and mantras, but their authority and effectiveness is sometimes not regulated or clear. Some can also be very good systems of healing, but they do not use the systematic approach prescribed by Usui Shiki Ryoho: the Usui Natural Healing System.
